Eye for an eye... is a misquote from the bible, people use it to justify revenge and justice & it gives rise to the legal term "lex talionis" .Most religions have a corruption of this.
The true quote is
"You have heard that it was said, "An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth". But I say to you, do not resist an evildoer. If anyone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also."
[Mathew 5 38-39]
Ghandi, known for non-violent resistence remarked "An eye for an eye will make the whole world blind."
meaning that even limited retaliation continues a potentially endless cycle of violence.
Or simpler, if everyone extracts revenge for wrong doing, where does it stop?
